Bengaluru: Seeking to downplay the criticism by the leader of opposition in the legislative Council, K. S. Eshwarappa over the Congress party striking an alliance with the Janata Dal (S), Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday asserted that "the alliance with the JD(S) was restricted to Shikaripura constituency alone" and it should not be seen as a state-wide alliance.
Speaking to reporters after hoisting the national flag at the KPCC office here, Dr Parameshwar claimed that the ‘offer for such a bypoll alliance’ came from the JD(S) and not from the Congress party in the Shikaripura constituency. "When they (JD-S) came to us, we could not refuse them,"he said.
When asked about energy minister, D.K. Shivakumar having dinner with one of the three controversial Reddy brothers in Bellary, G. Somashekhar Reddy recently, the KPCC president claimed that Mr Shivakumar's dinner with Mr Reddy should not be seen as a political event, instead it was at best a dinner involving two individuals who happens to be in two different parties. "There's nothing more to this," he retorted.
Exuding confidence of replicating the Uttarakhand bypoll victory in Karnataka, Dr Parameshwar said, "The state government under Chief Minister Siddaramiah's leadership is heading in the right direction, so we are sure of winning all three seats in these by-elections."He added that the party would shortly convene the state executive committee meeting to discuss various issues including the on going KPSC recruitment scam.
