Bengaluru: Continuing his tirade against the government over its handling of the Karnataka Public Service Commisssion (KPSC) recruitment scam, former Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday claimed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was running away from a debate on the issue.
Recalling that he had earlier agreed to a debate on the image of the KPSC, he regretted that he was now backtracking on his offer. The JD(S) leader contended he was neither for the 326 candidates selected, nor against them, and his only concern was the manner in which the government had acted “illegally” in taking action against the KPSC. “I welcome it if the government wants to appoint all the people who attended the examination. Anyway, there are two lakh vacancies in the administration, but the issue is not about making the appointments, but the unconstitutional acts of the government while handling the issue,” he argued.
Responding to charges that his father and former Prime Minister, H. D. Deve Gowda had amended rules to nominate Dr H.N. Krishna to the KPSC, Mr Kumaraswamy said Dr Krishna was appointed when Mr J.H. Patel was Chief Minister. Since Mr Patel was no longer around, Mr Siddaramaiah, who was Deputy Chief Minister at the time would be the best person to explain this, he maintained. As for the appointment of Mr Gonal Bheemappa as chairman of the commission, he claimed it had been done in the interest of social justice as he was from a scheduled caste.
