Hyderabad: The Water Board booked over 30 criminal cases against customers who have “re-opened” their disconnected water supply connections illegally in different O&M divisions in the last three months.

“Thirty cases were booked and six persons were arrested,” said P.S. Suryanaryana, the Water Board director (revenue). Officials say that as part of a drive to unearth illegal connections and collect overdue bill arrears, the enforcement team of the Water Board has been disconnecting over 100 water connections on a daily basis. However, some of the customers, with the help of plumbers, are reconnecting the pipelines, which is illegal.
