Suspected Kashmiri militants on Saturday killed two BSF officials and wounded four other jawans in southern Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the fourth attack against security forces in one week in the area.
Officials said that militants opened fired at the BSF vehicle near the Awantipora IAF airfield killing two troopers on the spot. Condition of their four injured colleagues is stated to be critical.
The BSF is deployed for securing the Indian Air Force airfield which is used by defence forces for air operations. The injured have been shifted to Army base hospital in the vicinity of the airfield, officials said.
The slain jawans have been identified as assistant sub inspector R. Yadav and head constable S. Yadav. Police and paramilitary forces reinforcements were quickly joined by soldiers from Army Rahstriya Rifles in launching a massive search operation for the assailants who fled the scene after targeting the BSF.
