Hyderabad: The exodus of security guards, house helps and service providers to various parts of Telangana, ahead of the Intensive Household Survey on August 19 has put tremendous pressure on people living in apartments.

Welfare association office bearers are having to perform routine tasks like pumping water to overhead tanks, switching on generators during power outages and housekeeping of their complexes. Security at the gate is a concern, with all staff returning home.

“I have to try and requisition casual help to clean the apartment for three days. Water management and day-to-day issues are being handled by another office bearer,” said K. Naresh Kumar, secretary, Rukmini Enclave Welfare Association at Himayatnagar.

The city has about 30,000 apartments. Around 70 per cent service providers  are from the districts, says a study by the Federation of Residents Welfare Associations.

“Most are from Medak, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Karimnagar and Nalgonda,” said V. B. J. Rao Chelikani, FRWA president.
