Chennai: India has not seen an improvement in leadership quality, and for those where leader quality has improved, their leaders are still failing to keep up with their peers, reveals a global leadership forecast. India ranks very high in both current leader quality and future bench strength. (i.e., the supply of leaders ready to step in to fill vital leadership roles).
However, far too many countries, including India, have not seen an improvement in leadership quality over the last four years, said research report titled The Global Leadership Forecast 2014 -2015 from DDI and Conference Board. And for those where leader quality has improved, their leaders are still failing to keep up with their peers, the report said.
While business services are investing heavily in developing their leaders, industries such as healthcare and manufacturing need to buck up as they have to deal with intense talent shortage and an aging workforce, respectively.
While Big Data is hotter as executives are putting increased pressure on finding ways to monetize data, there is a serious lack of understanding of the need and potential of analytics, said the seventh Global Leadership Forecast report, compiled from responses from 13,124 global leaders and 1,528 HR executives across 48 countries. Also, lack of gender diversity was regarded as a key issue among corporates.
