Theatre fest to air yesteryear plays in Thrissur

Thrissur: The seventh International Theatre Festival of Kerala, scheduled to be held from January 11-17 will have a new feature. There will be two specially designed auditoriums where old Malayalam radio dramas are to be aired. Said festival director Sankar Venkateswaran: “We plan to create a unique ambience for the delegates who will be coming in to listen to radio dramas. Even the seating will be designed in the most comfortable manner”.

Six radio dramas will be aired in association with the All India Radio, here. Malayalam radio dramas, once depicted life in all its myriad hues. “Critics say contemporary Malayalam dramas lack dialogue and the focus is more on acting and stage settings. We hope delegates will get a picture of the days gone by, by listening to these radio dramas”, said Sankar Venkateswaran.

Apart from Radio dramas, the seventh Theatre Festival will feature plays from Tunisia, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Germany, Egypt and Mexico.

NEW LOGO FOR THEATRE FEST

Thrissur: The seventh International Theatre Festival of Kerala, which is scheduled to be held from January 11 to 17, will have a new logo designed by prominent photographer and artist Manoj Parameswaran. According to Sangeeta Nataka Academi chairman Soorya Krishnamoorthy, the new logo embodies the spirit and approach of cultural coexistence.

"We see unity in diversity. Though different, there is a shared space in what we see and reflect, which is our culture and our theatre.The new logo contains all these messages,” he said. “The fonts, sizes and typesetting emphasise clarity, meaning and perspective,” Mr Manoj said.
