Hyderabad: Newly elected BJP president Amit Shah, who will be in the state capital, is set to give the party cadre direction in the state. The BJP unit under the leadership of state president G. Kishan Reddy may go at the 2019 elections alone.

Though there are several leaders toeing the line of Mr Kishan Reddy, there are a handful who has suggested day-to-day working relations with the TD in Telangana and that there should be a united effort to take on the TRS government.

The BJP won only one Lok Sabha seat and five Assembly seats in Telangana though it had contested in eight Lok Sabha and 47 Assembly seats with the TD alliance.

Mr Amit Shah, who is Prime Minister Naren-dra Modi’s close associate, is expected to deal with the issue and may communicate the “central party” line to the Telangana unit. He is also expected to meet TD president and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during his two-day stay.

Incidentally, Mr Shah will have to decide on fielding a party candidate for the Medak Lok Sabha bypoll.

Sources said Mr Naidu might also broach the issue of the candidate with Mr Shah to know the BJP’s stand on fielding a common candidate. The state BJP unit has, meanwhile, made elaborate arrangements for the visit of Mr Shah, who has a ‘Z’ category security cover, with much fanfare at all the venues including at Shamshabad Airport to receive him.

It has been more than two months since Mr Modi took over the reins at the Centre, but there is still no indication from the BJP central office regarding nominating non-officials for chairpersons and directors of over 260 Central government undertakings, which many BJP leaders from Telangana are eyeing. Many leaders will thus be seeking audiences with Mr Shah with their biodatas to represent their case.
