Food prices pinch Andhra Pradesh people’s wallet

Price of rice, red gram, tamarind, red chilies and onion increased while groundnut oil has become cheaper

Hyderabad:Price of rice, red gram, tamarind, red chilies and onion increased while groundnut oil has become cheaper in AP in 2013-14. Rice cost 14.99 per cent more when compared to previous year while red gram cost 6.77 per cent more. The price of groundnut oil decreased 11.11 per cent. Tamarind without seed cost 1.24 per cent more while red chillies cost 20.52 per cent more and onions cost 74.05 per cent more.
 
Horticulture crops were grown over 19.62 lakh hectares and production was 195.7 lakh tonnes during the year 2013-14. With annual meat production of 4.78 lakh metric tonnes, AP stands fourth in the country and with 88.11 lakh MTs of milk, Andhra Pradesh occupies the 6th position. Milk and meat production has shown a positive growth in 2013-14.
