Ponnala lakshmaiah security cover removed

Hyderabad: In a rare and surprise move, police withdrew the security cover for Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah late on Wednesday night. Shocked by the development, Mr Lakshmaiah sent an SMS to DGP Anurag Sharma and the media, complaining about the complete withdrawal of the security, which was already scaled down a few weeks ago.

In his message he wrote, “How can the perception of security risk change overnight with the change in government? Political parties in government may have political reasons, but how can the department collude with this?” Speaking to newsmen, Mr Lakshmaiah said he is not concerned about the risk to his life due to lack of security but questioned the rationale behind withdrawal of all the gunmen provided to him all these years.

Replying to a question, he said, upon advise by the DGP he has sent a letter to the home secretary (state government) giving details of the total withdrawal of security.
