Panaji: Goa government will initiate a  process to withdraw the recognition given to Goa Cricket  Association (GCA) that was embroiled in controversy after the  infamous 2001 ticketgate scam, the sports minister said. State sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar told the Assembly  on Thursday that the state-run Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has  already informed GCA that they will withdraw its recognition  until the entire managing committee, including some office  bearers indicted by a judicial commission in the scam, vacate  office.

Justice M.B. Pendse Commission probed the ticket scam  during April 6, 2001 India-Australia match held at Jawaharlal  Nehru Stadium at Fatorda. GCA president Vinod Phadke and former president Dayanand  Narvekar were charged for allegedly entering into a criminal  conspiracy with the ticket contractor, Chinmay Fallari, for  the sale of tickets by manipulation in the tender for a  consideration of Rs 68 lakh. “We have written to the GCA Secretary on July 11, 2012  that SAG may consider withdrawing recognition of the GCA until and unless the entire managing committee vacates the office,” he said.
