New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley Friday regretted his “small rape incident” remark, saying he had not meant it to be taken as “insensitive”.
His remark at a tourism event on Thursday that “one small incident of rape in Delhi, advertised the world over, was enough to cost India millions of dollars in global tourism” was criticised as insensitive.
The minister said, “I regret the statement was construed or some word I used was construed as insensitive. That was never my intention.”
Mr Jaitley didn’t specify which rape incident he had referred to, but it was taken as a reference to the December 16, 2012, gangrape-murder.
