Mumbai: The intense nature of pro snooker does not allow for wild celebrations and when Aditya Mehta cracked a perfect break of 147 late on Friday evening, there was naturally no fist pumping, but satisfaction at achieving a landmark every snooker player dreams of.

The 28-year-old registered his official maximum in the third frame against Stephen Maguire at the Arcaden Paul Hunter Classic. The current world no. 49 is now the first Indian to have a maximum in pro-snooker.

“It has always been a dream to make a professional max and I don’t think I could have made a more perfect break,” Mehta told this newspaper from Germany.

The cueist from Mumbai is now the 106th in the history of the sport to have achieved the feat and the first after Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 12th maximum in the Welsh Open in March.

“As Indians we have a lot to achieve in this sport and I am happy to be setting the bar so high,” he added.
