Hyderabad:Within a day the police solved the theft at the Big Bazaar shopping mall at Kacheguda by arresting a gang of five for the crime. All of them are ex-staffers and were arrested by the Vijayawada police during vehicle checking. The stolen material worth Rs 38 lakh was also recovered.
Sources said, cops may declare the arrests in a day or two. The culprits reportedly confessed that they had committed the crime due to financial problems. Sources said the police arrested them while they were travelling in a private bus at Kanchikacherla in Vijayawada district. They were escaping with the stolen material stuffed in bags.
The officials who were conducting a vehicle check intercepted the bus and when questioned about the items they were carrying, they gave unconvincing replies. Officials from the Sultan Bazaar police in the city confirmed the arrest but didn’t reveal how the culprits were arrested and who arrested them. They revealed the accused were ex-staffers, but now have no jobs.
The incident occurred between 12 midnight and 2 am on Saturday, when the group entered the shopping mall with bags. The accused knew the entry and exit points of the mall. They entered through a door from the rear and went to the E-Zone on the third floor where the gadgets were kept on display.
They stole around 35 cellphones, 15 laptops and seven cameras from the store. The prices of the stolen items have not yet been ascertained. Though the authorities didn’t give an exact estimation of the stolen goods earlier, later they informed the cops that they were worth Rs 38 lakh.
The culprits left the empty packing boxes and covers in the store and took only the gadgets. The footage retrieved from the surveillance cameras was examined by cops, and they found that the culprits resembled some ex-staffers of the shopping mall.
