Hyderabad: Neil Bhoopalam is perhaps one of the very few actors today who can balance theatre and films with ease.

Neil, who has been part of films like Shaitan, No one Killed Jessica and the TV series 24, was in the city recently to perform director Atul Kumar’s rendition of Michael Frayn’s comedy Noises Off.
Incidentally, Neil’s acting career started after he began taking Kumar’s workshops during college. “I was working as an RJ before I started with the workshops. And after being part of several productions on stage I was noticed and approached for films,” says Neil who recently finished shooting for NH10, with Anushka Sharma.

Neil adds, “I had really liked Navdeep Singh’s (director) earlier film, Manorama Six Feet Under, so when the opportunity of NH10 came, I went for a screen test and was lucky to be selected. Soon after, Anushka and I started with workshops to prepare for our roles.”

Not revealing much about the film, he says, “It’s a thriller which is focussed on a couple who go on a road trip and what happens during the trip.”

Neil was also recently part of popular YouTube channel, East India Comedy’s short video titled I’m Not A Woman, where along with other actors, he apologised to the women of India, because India is the second-most unsafe place in the world for women. Although the video went viral, it also got brickbats, mostly from men, who didn’t feel it was their duty to apologise for someone else’s mistake.

He says, “Even in a four-minute video, people find things they didn’t like. In our case, we are just glad that more people have understood why we even made the video.”

He is also a part of Dharma Production’s film Ungli, starring Sanjay Dutt and Emraan Hashmi, which will release later this year. “I will also be touring for Rajat Kapoor’s theatre production, Hamlet, The Clown Prince,” he adds.
