Chennai: BJP leader and Union minister of state for heavy industries Pon Radhakrishnan on Monday said that the National Democratic Alliance in the state would hold strong for the 2016 assembly polls.

After greeting DMDK Chief Vijayakanth on his 62nd birthday at his Saligramam residence along with the party’s newly appointed state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Mr Radhakrishnan said that the BJP-led alliance was an enduring one.

His comment came amidst PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss’ remark that his party would lead an alliance for the assembly elections in 2016. The DMDK, PMK and MDMK were part of the seven-party rainbow alliance led by the BJP that contested in the Lok Sabha polls in May this year.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of the constituent parties of the National Democratic Alliance also greeted the DMDK chief on his birthday.

“I thank Prime Minister Modi, Mr Radhakrishnan, Ms Tamilisai Soundararajan, MDMK chief Vaiko, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi general secretary E.R. Easwaran and leaders of several other political parties and friends who greeted me on my birthday,” Vijayakanth said in a statement here.

The Vijayakanth-led DMDK is celebrating its founder president’s birthday as ‘Poverty Eradication Day’, by giving away welfare assistance to the needy.
