New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene on the issue of the Constitutional validity of the amendment by which the collegium system was scrapped and a new mechanism under the National
Judicial Appointment Commission (NJAC) was proposed. Declining to entertain a batch of pleas challenging the 121st Constitutional Amendment and the NJAC Bill, the SC bench headed by Justice A.R. Four PILs had been filed in the SC for declaring the NJAC move as unconstitutional. The PILs had been filed by former additional solicitor-general Bishwajit Bhattacharya, advocates R.K. Kapoor and Manohar Lal Sharma and the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association, days after the Parliament passed Bills to scrap the collegium system for judges’ appointments .
