The documents were recovered from Bandra police station, Mumbai and contained important information, the case diary, and the statements of two witnesses.

According to reports the documents were found in one of the inspector’s rooms and may have been displaced from the record room during a renovation of the police station.

Previous reports stated that out of a total of 63 documents, 7 original files went missing.

The case, dragging on for over a decade, had taken a twist earlier this year when the magistrate, after examining 17 witnesses, held that the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was made out against Salman and referred the matter to a sessions court, as cases under this offence are tried by a higher court.
