Teso for early solution to Lankan Tamils row

The resolution by Teso also pressed for India granting visa to the UN team

Chennai: DMK led Teso (Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation) on Tuesday urged the Indian government to take immediate steps to expedite the process of finding a political solution desired by the Lankan Tamils.Taking solace in the interest shown by the Modi regime to facilitate a political solution for the Tamils issue in Lanka following a meeting between a TNA delegation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi recently, a resolution adopted at an emergency TESO meeting held on Tuesday morning said, “It is a matter of solace that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led regime at the Centre has come forward to find a political solution for the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.”
 
In another resolution asking the Centre and state to find a permanent solution to end state fishermen’s problem, Teso referred to contradictory statements issued by Colombo on the issue of releasing TN fishermen’s boats detained recently and accused the Rajapaksa regime of attempting to deceive the Indian government.
 
The emergency Teso meet also urged the government to come forward to enable the UN committee to investigate from India the alleged human rights violations committed by Lanka. The resolution also pressed for India granting visa to the UN team.
 
Another resolution had requested the United Nations not to permit either Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa or any of his representatives to participate in the UN general council meet slated to begin next month. “Sri Lanka must not be allowed in the meet as it did not allow a UN investigation panel to probe rights violation there,” the resolution stated.
 
Teso has also resolved to hold a protest demonstration in the city on September 3 focusing on these issues. Speculations are rife that a possible meeting of a TNA delegation and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the immediate future which had triggered Teso to convene the emergency meeting on Tuesday.
