Hyderabad: The Banking Ombudsman for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday said that complaints relating to electronic banking have increased during 2013-14 as against previous corresponding year.
“Most of the complaints pertained to failed ATM withdrawals, fraudulent internet transactions through cloning of cards, harassment in collection of credit card dues,” said N Krishna Mohan, principal chief general manager, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and banking ombudsman of AP and Telangana.
The share of metropolitan and other urban centres witnessed a marginal increase in share of total complaints to 43.71 per cent and 31.07 per cent respectively. He said that complaints related to ATM, debit card or credit card make up 28.95 per cent during 2013-14. Mr Mohan also claimed that banks have been told to put in place Real Time Fraud Monitor System.
Explaining further, the ombudsman said that some banks have ATM, which have a ‘cash divert tray’. Because of this sometimes, customers’ accounts get debited, but they would not be able to withdraw cash. ”In some cases banks could not answer our questions when we asked about cash divert tray, that pulls back cash without reaching the customer,” he said.
