159 eateries sealed in Kerala

A total of 916 squads inspected around 12,593 eateries, including hotels, bakeries

Thiruvananthapuram: As part of ‘Safe Kerala’ initiative, special squads under the Directorate of Health Services on Friday sealed 159 eateries during State-wide raids carried out in the wake of rise in contagious diseases including jaundice, typhoid, acute diarrheal disorders in the state.

As many as 2,984 eateries were served with improvement notices. A total of 916 squads inspected around 12,593 eateries, including hotels, bakeries, catering centres, soda companies and restaurants.

Around Rs 188,200 was  collected as fine from eateries. Around 966 eateries were functioning without licence. Around 543 bakeries were served with notices for violating hygienic conditions
