Kochi:Facebook showed its humanitarian side last week when a user posted the  photo of an accident victim. The good Samaritan was Thiruvananthapuram native Harish Babu who also admitted the person to the hospital.

Within 45 minutes, several persons shared the photo and identified the man, Praveen. His both mobile phones were password-protected which made it difficult to identify him. Due to the timely intervention of Harish and his friends,  the victim was saved.

Praveen, working in a pharmaceutical company, suffered a blood clot in the brain. “I saw Praveen lying unconscious in front of Sree Moolam Club, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvannthapuram. Nobody attempted to save him by taking him to a hospital. So four of us decided to take him to the medical college. I checked his mobile phones and tried to get the numbers but unfortunately both his phones were protected,” Harish said.

“Since he was a stranger to me,  I decided to post his photo on Facebook along with my phone number. I got tremendous response from Facebook and managed to identify the victim,”  Harish said. Meanwhile, one of Praveen’s friends came to know about the incident and reached the hospital.

Harish’s post was shared 14,429 times by Facebook users within a short  time. “ Since the image I posted was graphic,  I deleted the photo later,” he said. The incident happened on August 26.  Within four days, Harish got more than  700 calls from  many countries congratulating him.

Praveen has been moved from Trivandrum MCC to Ananthapuri Hospital. The cause of accident is yet to be known.
