Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is searching for new names for all the welfare schemes being implemented at present. The government is in a hurry as it wants to announce the schemes with new names in its first annual Budget to be presented in the Legislative Assembly. The TRS government decided to abolish all the existing schemes devised by previous Congress governments between 2004 and 2014 and come up with its own version of schemes.
As of now, the government has renamed the fee reimbursement scheme for students as Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana. It is searching for suitable names to rename schemes such as Rajiv Aarogyasri, Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, Bangaru Thalli, Mana Biyyam, Amma Hastham, SC/ST sub plan, Rachchabanda, Akshara Abhyasam among others. Most of these schemes were either renamed or newly introduced by the then Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in the undivided state after the demise of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been repeatedly asking officials to come up with new schemes, which should be “Telangana centric”. He has been calling present schemes “Andhra-centric” in all meetings with officials. The CM is of the view that the names of existing schemes would remind people of undivided AP and its rulers and there is no need to continue with them after Telangana state has been formed.
