CM asks to ensure implementation of welfare schemes for disabled persons

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday called for proper mapping of areas from where incidents of trafficking of children and women are reported.

Gogoi, who chaired a review meeting with officials of the state social welfare department, pointed out that the growing incidents of trafficking of women and children in the state was a matter of concern, an official spokesman said.

He directed the officials to properly map the areas from where such incidents were usually reported and take immediate remedial measures to check them.

The chief minister also asked the officials to expedite the process for setting up of fast track courts for solving issues like child labour and Nirbhaya Distress Cell to help women in distress in each district, the spokesman said.

Gogoi, meanwhile, also directed Principal Secretary, Home and Political Department M G V K Bhanu to institute a vigilance inquiry into the substandard quality of newly built Anganwadi centres under ICDS at Titabor, following a report submitted by the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner.

Officials of the department were also asked to ensure implementation of welfare schemes for persons with disabilities.

The officials informed Gogoi that 1,800 posts have been identified in different departments for recruitment of persons with disabilities, the spokesman said.
