Kakinada: The Congress will launch an agitation to pressurise the ruling Telugu Desam Party to fulfil its election promises, especially, farm loan waiver. The party has decided to hold demonstrations in front of the commercial banks auctioning the gold, pledged by the farmers.

Addressing a workers’ meet, ‘Reconstruction of Congress Party’ on Sunday at Venkateswara Kalyana Mandapam, PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy announced that the agitation would start in East Godavari district on September 8. He gave an ultimatum to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to waive all the farm loans and also the debts of Self-Help Groups without any conditions and also announce a cut-off date for its implementation.

He said that Mr Naidu was afraid of the fulfilling the promises as he was not able to get the funds from the Centre. He said that finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu made the same election promises and allocated meagre funds in the Budget, which are not sufficient. The former union ministers M.M. Pallam Raju, cine actor Chiranjeevi were also present in the meet.
