DMK slams Union HRD ministry’s ‘guru utsav conspiracy’

Chennai: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Sunday took exception to the Union HRD ministry’s plan to celebrate Teacher’s Day as ‘Guru Utsav’ and alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to downgrade Tamil language and society by such a move.

“This morning I read a newspaper report that the Centre has issued a circular to celebrate Teacher’s Day (September 5) as Guru Utsav hereafter. We have been celebrating Teacher’s Day for several years. This is an apt example of hatching a conspiracy to downgrade Tamil language and those who made sacrifices for it’s welfare”, he said.

The DMK patriarch, noted that the ceremony was held as per Tamil culture and requested everyone to work for the welfare of Tamil and the cause of Tamil society.
