Anna Canteens planned in city
GVMC is gearing up for setting up the canteens in the city on the lines of Amma Canteens in Chennai
Visakhapatnam: Now, subsidised and hygienic food willl be shortly available in the city at the proposed Anna Canteens. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is gearing up for setting up the canteens in the city on the lines of Amma Canteens in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.
In all 15 canteens, two in each Assembly segment would initially be opened in the city limits and they would be extended to other areas in due course verifying their affordability. A team of senior officials also visited the canteens run by Chennai Municipal Corporation on Saturday and observed modus operandi and financial aspects involved in managing such facilities. Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said as per initial plans, they had considered two canteens at each Assembly segment in the city limits and the venues would be shortly finalised after discussing with the local legislators. In fact, each canteen would be provided subsidy material worth Rs 1.50 lakh per month.
The GVMC provides accommodation, material like gas, utensils, electric equipment, raw material and power and the women groups will manage the canteens on the basis of daily wages. Each worker would get '300 per day from the earnings. The commissioner said they would ensure hygienic and quality food at the stalls since it is a prestigious project of the state government.
