Chennai: With a view to deal with the skill gap seen in terms of reporting on public healthcare issues, a consultation workshop with special focus on routine immunisation was organised by Unicef India in
partnership with the George Institute for Global Health and University of Oxford on Monday.

Presided over by Professor Premila Webster, head, School of Public Health, University of Oxford, the consultation involved group discussions amongst several media academicians, journalists as well as public health care professionals.

Deliberating on the current scenario of routine immunisations in India, Dr Genevieve Begkoyian, chief of health, Unicef India, said that media has played a significant role in spreading awareness of polio
vaccinations, thereby ensuring a polio-free country. Participants were briefed and consulted about a proposed review and feedback mechanism of public health stories.
