Visakhapatnam: Dayal Nagar, an area which was considered as outskirts of Vizag city until a few years ago is now a residential locality where many city folks would love to own a house. With the discontinued hills of the Eastern Ghats enclosing from two sides of the colony and Bay of Bengal on one, Dayal Nagar with its lush green cover is loved by its residents.

However, it is not natural beauty that sets this more than 40 years old colony apart.
It is the community feeling which exists here and is rare to find in metropolitan cities. The idea of community living here does not end just with regular celebration of festivals or meetings.

Residents of this colony actually conduct farming of vegetables, run a vocational education institute and they all belong to the same community, Radhasoami Satsang. One peculiar feature of this colony, which has 196 homes is that none of them has connection to cable or DTH networks. Government-owned Doordarshan remains their sole entertainer on television.

Rajendra Nath, a resident since 27 years, says, “The colony is spread over 21 acres and about 5-6 acres of it is utilised for farming a variety of fruits and vegetables. Every farm is allotted an incharge and residents of the colony work in the farms including women and children. We try our best to ensure we stick to organic farming.”

The colony also runs an institution, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, which provides vocational courses like sewing, automobile repairing among others at nominal fees. The colony has also developed a Tennis clay court for its residents.

Secretary of  Radhasaomi Satsang Prasada Rao, said that the members of this community celebrate only Basant Panch-ami and during August every year they visit their community head in Dayalbagh, Agra.
The community has a Satsang hall where everyone assembles for spiritual services.
