Hyderabad police academy bans liquor
Decission taken after the death of a trainee IPS officer on the campus during a party
Hyderabad: Following the death of a trainee IPS officer on the campus during a party, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy has banned the consumption of liquor in the academy.
Aruna Bahuguna, the director of SVPNPA, on Tuesday issued an order prohibiting liquor in the officers’ club. There is now a total ban on alcohol, including during functions and special parties, on the campus. “It is hereby ordered that no liquor will be served in the officers’ club of SVP National Police Academy. It is also directed that, hereafter, no liquor will be served in any official function of the academy,” the order issued by the director stated. Manu Mukt Manav, the 30-year-old IPS trainee officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, had drowned in the pool under suspicious circumstances on Thursday while a party was going on. While Manav’s family members alleged that it was a murder, investigating officials said that the officer was too inebriated to swim in the pool. Manav’s parents have left for New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand a CBI probe into the case. The parents said the cops might tamper with proof in order to save their skin. They had also written a letter to the PM’s Office describing the case, and their demands.
Meanwhile, Manav’s friends said that he had done scuba diving and was an expert swimmer. “How could such a person drown in a pool? It is really suspicious, and an independent probe is required,” said one of his friends.
