NEW DELHI: Three months after the new Lok Sabha was constituted, the presiding officers of both the Houses have constituted department related standing committees with main Opposition Congress securing the chairmanship of five such panels, including the crucial home and law and personnel. Interestingly, former PM Manmohan Singh, who is hailed as the architect of economic reforms in the country, is a member of the parliamentary standing committee on finance, it was announced on
Tuesday. It is headed by his junior colleague Veerappa Moily. Perhaps, this is the first time that a former Prime Minister is made an ordinary member of a standing committee. The Congress will now head committees on finance, home, external affairs, science and technology and law and personnel besides the already announced PAC.
