Thiruvananthapuram: With the BJP-RSS leadership requesting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for a CBI probe into the murder of  RSS activist Manoj allegedly by CPM workers, the state government is likely to concede  their demands.

BJP leaders were of the view that only a CBI investigation could unearth the high-level conspiracy hatched by the CPM leadership to carry out the murder.

Sources said Mr Chandy held consultations with Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on the issue. At present the case is being investigated by a team supervised by ADGP S.

Ananthakrishnan and headed by Superintendent of Police Ramachandran.

The team also includes  a couple of DySPs who were part of the  investigation into the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.

They were included due to  their familiarity with the violence of  north Kerala district, which has a long history of RSS-CPM clashes claiming several lives in the past.

The murdered RSS activist E. Manoj, 42, of Kathirur was the Kannur district sharirik shikshan pramukh.

Manoj was involved in the murder attempt on P. Jayarajan, who is now the CPM district secretary and party state committee member.

He  was attacked during  the Onam festival on August 25, 1999.
