Chennai: Asserting that Guru Utsav was meant to honour the teachers and does not in any way hinder the noble occasion of remembering them for their role in one’s life, the state unit of the BJP has appealed to the political parties not to politicise the issue.

Extending the greetings to teachers on the eve of Teacher’s Day, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said the occasion was named as Guru Utsav to honour our teachers who were instrumental in grooming our character and future. “Certain parties are needlessly politicising it. The aim is to pay our reverence to our teachers on the day,” she said.

“A teacher is also a guru. Only in our country we have the quartet concept of Matha, Pitha, Guru and Deivam in which guru occupies the third position in our life,” Dr. Tamilisai added.
