Vijayawada: Among the first positive impact of Vijayawada being named AP capital would be the generation of employment in the private sector, while development of the city will be gradual. The fact that more jobs had been created in the recent past is visible, as people with roots to the region starting their businesses or setting up branches in the city, right from the time the general elections concluded.
Since the Chief Minister promised to make Vijayawada a hub for the automobiles and logistics, private players in these two sectors see tremendous scope for growth and have begun to set up shops here. This alone will generate employment for the local youth. The existing Autonagar in Vijayawada provides employment to over one lakh people.
This apart, a number of shopping malls, coac-hing centers, Internet service providers, printing presses, transport agencies etc have come up in the city recently. This means lot of job opportunities for local youths who have been seeking employment after pursing intermediate and degree courses.
A shopping mall that was recently opened in the city now employs about 1,000 people, from helpers to managers. Similarly, the multiplexes and other shops in the shopping malls too have hired a large number of youngsters.
There are two more such shopping complexes about to come up in city.“This is an opportunity for the youth from rural backgrounds. Irres-pective of bifurcation and capital status a large number of call centres and similar services have mushroomed in the city. Now many companies are ready to move to the city and we are getting requests for skilled workers,” said R. Ajay Kumar, manager in a human resources firm that provides staff to local companies.
“Now that Vijayawada is the capital, it will attract a huge number of private firms,” said B. Karthik, a student.
