Hyderabad: It was in October last year that ace Hyderabad shuttler Jwala Gutta had announced her intentions of starting a “politics-free” badminton academy in the city.
And now, less than a year later, the plan is on the verge of coming to fruition. A source close to the fiery shuttler has told this newspaper that Jwala’s proposal to set up the academy at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium at Yousufguda in Hyderabad and the relevant paperwork have been submitted to the Government of Telangana.
The proposal which was submitted around three days ago has crossed all the major bureaucratic hurdles and all it needs now is an official sign-off from Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, which, the source adds, is likely to happen in the next 10 or 15 days.
“Jwala is very happy with how quickly things are moving. This government is very committed towards developing sports in the state. She is very thankful,” the source said. Jwala has also been invited by the government to work with them towards improving sports in the state.
According to the source, Jwala has always wanted to give back to sport, and she is likely to reach out to more people with the government resources than as a private individual.
“There is plenty of talent in the state. All we need are the right resources and the people who know how to use them properly. This government knows how to do that,” the source said.
