Car major lends helping hand to Chennai schools

For the past eight years, the CSI School has benefited through the services of Ford India

CHENNAI: “Study and work hard to go places and make sure to learn something every day,” said Nigel Harris, president, Ford India, addressing students of CSI school, Melrosapuram, near Maramalai Nagar, on Teacher’s Day. For the past eight years, the CSI School has benefited through the services of Ford India, as part of its Global Week of Caring (GWC).

This year’s GWC kickstarted with the launch of its ‘happy school program’ to work towards addressing identified gaps in academic support, health, nutrition and infrastructure of 21 government-aided schools across Chennai in partnership with 11 NGOs.

These schools were chosen based on their geographic proximity to the organisation.

“Catering to the different needs of the schools, different aids and services are offered to them. Our employees as well as suppliers together work towards improving the quality of life for people in the communities where we live and work,” said Nigel.

Driving skills, pollution control awareness campaign, medical camps, science workshops, women empowerment, science workshops, building separate toilets for girl students are some of the activities that comprise community service.

This year’s special focus would be on water conservation projects that is of vital need in India.

Six other continents are also part of the GWC with contribution of 80,000 hours in 300 community services from Ford’s employees all around the world.
