Students take up street plays to create social awareness

The students were split into 13 groups and displayed their talents at public places in the city

Coimbatore:A week-long orientation programme on street theatre at G.R.D. College of science in the city concluded on Friday. Apart from learning street theatre in the closed auditorium of their college campus, the students were split into 13 groups and displayed their talents at Fun Republic Mall, Chinniyampalayam bus stand, G.R.D. public school and a few other public places in the city.
 
The theme of those plays were related to social issues like child labour, child abuse, clean and green city and political issues in Sri Lanka. Ms G. Radha, head of the department of school of communication of G.R.D. college, said street theatre, a skill-based subject, is taught to students by experts and students would be assessed based on their performance by external faculty.
