Online sites promises to recruit people, mainly students from the city

Hyderabad: Considering the growing attraction towards IS for youngsters in the city, the Hyderabad police is keeping an eye on those who have been endorsing the group’s activities on social media. “We have found that some youngsters active on social networking sites getting attracted to the IS. In order to curb this trend, we called their parents, informed them about it, and counselled them. Since these youths had not committed any crime, we have not arrested them so far,” the commissioner said.
 
The police chief also denied reports of four Hyderabadi youths being arrested in Bengal, while trying to cross the border and go to Iraq. “This is absolutely not true. What we found was only the activities of a few people on social networking sites,” Mr Reddy said.
 
A top police official said that specific groups and pages are active on sites like Facebook. It promises to recruit people, mainly students from the city, to the Sunni Jihadist group. “We have gathered information regarding these activities. If needed, we will call the youngsters and counsel them,” the official added.
 
The police has sought the help of community leaders to sort out the issue. “We have requested the leaders to make the youths aware of the these groups,” said the commissioner. 
 
Meanwhile, following an alert from Central intelligence agencies on the declaration of the al Qaeda chief about launching a branch in the Indian subcontinent, Hyderabad police has  strengthened its anti-terror watch.
