3.84 Lakh farmers to benefit from loan waiver

The final list of beneficiaries would be sent to the government in a couple of days

Karimnagar: The Karimnagar district authorities have identified 3, 84,106 farmers eligible for waiver of crop loans to the tune of Rs 1,683 crore availed in the previous year. However, over 92,611 farmers have not been included in the list as they were found ineligible as per the norms mentioned in the guidelines of the waiver scheme. Loans availed by them will not be struck off.
 
The final list of beneficiaries would be sent to the government in a couple of days.
The number of total beneficiaries in Karimnagar district was finalised after conducting social inquiry in each village and verifying land documents of farmers who had taken loans from banks. 
District collector M. Veerabrahmaiah will forward the list of farmers to the state authorities for consideration for waiving off the crop loans taken by them. On August 13, the state government directed the district authorities to prepare the list of farmers eligible for the scheme after issuing the guidelines for the crop loan waiver.
 
According to the statistics, a sum of Rs2,505. 66 crore of crop loans were given to 4,76,717 farmers in 2013-14. Of this, loans to the tune of Rs 234.63 crore were availed by pledging gold ornaments and the remaining Rs 2,221.2 crore was taken for raising crops.
