Two kids, five others die as van hits lorry among seven
Minivan hit the lorry from behind on the National Highway
Vijaywada: Seven persons, including a woman and two children, were killed when a minivan hit a stationary lorry at Veeravalli village of Bapulapadu mandal in Krishna district in the early hours of Saturday.
The mishap occurred when the minivan, carrying chemical containers from Hyderabad to Tanuku, hit the lorry from behind on the National Highway.
Of the 12 persons travelling in the minivan, Tammisetti Srikrishna, 6, Kunala Murari, 35, Kunala Manikanta, 6, of Vegeswaram village of Tallapudi mandal in East Godavari district, V. Srinu, 35, of Chegurupadu, Chutta Nagabushanam, 40, Ch. Nagamani, 35, of Vemulapalem village of Pattipadu mandal of East Godavari and Bandham Lavaraju, 50, of Peddipalem village died on the spot.
The five injured were admitted to the government hospital in Vijayawada.
Special collector N. Ramesh Babu and Nuzvid DSP Sitaramaswamy rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital.
MBBS students dies in mishap, 4 others hurt
In a tragic incident, a medical student was killed while four others were injured on Saturday at Girijavolu village in Guntur district.
Nadendla police said that five third year MBBS students of the Guntur Government Medical College were returning from Phira-ngipuram when the car they were travelling in hit a pole while trying to overtake a lorry.
P. Ashok Reddy, 22, died while being shifted to the GGH, D. Akhil, Rajasekhar Reddy, Gopal Krishna and Ch. Asmita were injured. Akhil’s condition is said to be ‘serious’.
