Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly adopted a resolution on Saturday urging the Centre to provide one-third reservation for persons from Backward Classes in Parliament and Legislatures. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the government will implement more than what was promised in the Telugu Desam manifesto.
However, Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy challenged Mr Naidu on implementation of the one-third reservation in his party first. “The resolution was passed only to delay proceedings and not allow the Opposition to corner the government on the last day of the Budget session,” he said.
He added, “I am ready to give one-third seats to BCs in my party right now, but is Mr Naidu ready to do it? This resolution was sent by Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in 2008. The CM just wanted to divert the discussion on the last day.”
