New Delhi: With a debate raging over the formation of a BJP government in Delhi both within and outside the party, saffron chief Amit Shah on Saturday indicated that there was “nothing immoral” in trying to form the government.

Speaking to a television channel, Mr Shah said: “Our party got the mandate in the Assembly and the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, and we think that the mandate stands. I do not find anything immoral in seeking support to form a government,” he said. However, Union home minister Rajnath Singh, who is against “horse-trading”, said that the party will take a call once it receives a formal call from Lt. Gov. Najeeb Jung.

Meanwhile an AAP delegation led by party chief Arvind Kejriwal met President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday evening and urged him “not to accept the L-G’s advice to invite the BJP to form government”. Mr Kejriwal said that if the BJP “is invited to form government, support letters from the concerned should be sought”.

Hinting that the BJP could take outside support for government formation, Mr Shah said the BJP has the right to form government since it has the mandate. However, the state unit of the party seems to be divided on the issue.

The AAP chief, meanwhile, after his meeting with President Mukherjee, said, “How will the BJP form a government? Naturally, the BJP wants to form government through horse-trading, by buying MLAs, which is totally wrong. They want to buy MLAs using money power, at ' 20 crore each.”
