Woman, 3 others held for gold theft

Special team of police was formed to solve the case

Tiruchy: A special team of the city police arrested on Thursday four persons, including a woman and a convicted person, on the charge of robbing gold biscuits from a person here last month.The police also recovered from the gang gold biscuits weighing 800 grams, 35 sovereigns of jewels and a two-wheeler.
 
All four, A. Mohamed Umar Farooq of Sangiliyandapuram, Tiruchy, B. Feroze Ahmed of Jailaniya street, Subramaniapuram, Tiruchy, J. Mahaboob Basha (28) of Yanaikulam, Chennai, and R. Tamizharasi of Khajapettai, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. As per the plan devised by Tamizharasi, the other three robbed gold biscuits weighing 800 grams from Rahman of Sripattinam while he was waiting at the Ramalinga Nagar bus stop and fled in a car on August 27.
 
Based on a complaint from the gold biscuit owner Noor Mohamed, the Woriur crime police registered a case and were investigating. A special team was formed to nab the culprits. Meanwhile, a special team conducting vehicle checks on Karur bypass on Thursday stopped a two-wheeler on which Mohamed Umar Farooq, Feroze Ahamed and Mahaboob Basha were travelling and interrogated them. As they made contradictory statements, the police grilled them. The three confessed to have robbed gold biscuits as per the plan devised by Tamizharasi. Subsequently, they were arrested, a release from the police said.
