CBI, now wants to go high-tech in its snooping and investigative prowess
New Delhi: Keeping in line with the Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s emphasis on greater use of technology, the country's premier probe agency, CBI, now wants to go high-tech in its snooping and investigative prowess. The CBI has sent a wish-list of ‘high-tech’ surveillance equipment to the Centre in a bid to improve the quality of its investigation.The list includes: sophisticated hidden spy devices including mirror, diary, cap, button and key chain cameras-digital recorder, i2 Analyst’s Notebook, 8.8
multi-user network integral license, voice over Internet protocol services and high-resolution video conferencing equipment, Internet evidence finder, server for social media analysis and mobile forensic kits.
Besides, the agency has also reminded the government of its long pending demand for creation of additional posts for different branches to function effectively.
Sources said, "The CBI has sent a fresh proposal to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) seeking additional fund for purchase of latest forensic equipment and gadgets for its Technical and Forensic Support Unit. Use of LINUX technology at its forensic lab is also the top priority of the agency." The agency has demanded allocation of an additional fund of Rs10 crore in the current financial year from the Centre for the purpose, they added.
