Nizamabad: Colourful processions marked the conclusion of the 9-day Ganesh celebrations in Nizamabad district on Sunday.

Except, Nizamabad, Kamareddy and other towns, the people in rural areas completed the immersion of Ganesh idols. As part of Navaratri (nine days) celebrations, they took out the processions on Saturday night and concluded the immersion in the early hours of Sunday.

In a tragic incident, a reveller, Balaiah of Ramareddy village in Sadashivanagar mandal,  drowned in the water tank, while immersing Ganesh idols. The villagers brought the Ganesh idols in procession and held immersion at the water tank on the outskirts of the village. Balaiah’s body was fished out on Sunday.

Ganesh idols were taken out in lorries, tractors decorated with flowers. Enthusiastic youth, particularly children, danced in the procession to the music blaring from DJ sound systems and drum beats.

Poor feeding was done at almost all Ganesh pandals on the last day and special prasadam was distributed to the people.

Police made elaborate security arrangements for the immersion fete.

Meanwhile, the district administration is geared up for the Ganesh immersion in Nizamabad city and other towns in the district on Monday.

Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandali, an umbrella organisation of Ganesh mandals is all set to conduct Sobha yatra in the town.

As part of decades old tradition, the Sobha yatra will begin from Dubba area in the city and reach Vinayaknagar through main streets.
