BengaluruAs many as 40,000 files were cleared as part of the special drive carried out by the state bureaucracy on Sunday. This initiative was launched after Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah lashed out at bureaucrats during one of his many meetings with department heads in the last fortnight.

After the Chief Minister vent his ire, Chief Secretary, Kaushik Mukherjee had issued a circular to crucial departments such as Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Revenue, Urban Development, Health and Family Welfare, Co-operation, Home and other important departments.

Mr Mukherjee issued the circular with a week-long time table to top bureaucrats of these departments to ensure the clearance of backlog files on September 3. In the last four days,   these bureaucrats have cleared on an average 30,000 files in the last three days where as on Sunday, the officials claim that they have cleared 40,000 files in a day.

Speaking to reporters, chief secretary, Kaushik Mukherjee said, “Officials have worked with enthusiasm as they used to work during regular week days. Working on Sunday was not a problem with them this week.”

He quickly added that certain files would remain pending as some files were entangled in legal battles and some need multi department clearances, which would remain pending. “The files which are now being cleared pertain to various departments which require clearance from within the department,” he claimed.

While speaking to reporters  on Sunday Higher education principal secretary, Raj Kumar Khatri claimed that there are about 8,000 files pending in the education department. “We are hopeful of bringing the number of pending files in the department to five thousand which have remained pending for more than two years,” he said.
