Vijayawada: The Telugu Desam is eyeing a record victory in Nandigama byelection.

The ruling party is relying on two main factors, that the main opposition party, the YSR Congress is not contesting, and some parts of the Nandigama Assembly segment are part of the proposed capital region.

The TD leadership believes that the voters may vote for the ruling party since they stand to gain from being part of the capital region.

The fact that the base of the Congress has been eroded following its state bifurcation decision will also help the TD’s dream of a record margin.

The rank and file of the TD is working to achieve this goal.

For the TD leadership, a record margin of victory would mean an end to talk that its popularity is eroding due to confusion on the loan waiver scheme.

Krishna district TD president D. Umamaheswara Rao said that the party candidate Tangirala Soumya would get a record majority. He said that the Congress was contesting the polls only to criticise the TD.
