Fervour marks idol immersion
Ganesh idols installed in Adilabad were immersed in Penganga river

Penganga (Adilabad): Ganesh idols installed in the Adilabad town were immersed in the waters of river Penganga 20 km away from the town. The Ganesh idols Shobhayatra began in the town after collector M. Jagan Mohan and SP Dr Gajarao Bhupal performed puja to the Ganesh idol at Saraswati Shishu Mandir on Monday afternoon.
Hindu Ustava Samiti members were also present at the puja event. Ganesh idol immersion was also held at several other places. Of the total 4,476 Ganesh idols installed in the district, 700 are in the Adilabad town. Revenue and municipal officials took safety measures, erected barricades blocking the devotees from going deep into river water.
Adilabad Municipal Commissioner Shahid Masood visited the place and inspected the lights erected on the inter state Penganga river bridge where idols are being immersed with the help of cranes.
The vehicular movement was stopped by erecti-ng barricades at other end of the bridge to restrain the vehicles coming from bordering Maharashtra. Amid tight police security, Ganesh idols passed through Ambedkar Chowk and Punjab Chowk in the town and proceeded towards Penganga. Fire staff was kept ready with the life jackets, ropes and other equipment.
District administration took more safety measures as the water level was rising in Penganga following heavy rains in the upstream in bordering Maharashtra.
