Coimbatore: A group of school students from the Kurichi government higher secondary school petitioned the collector on Monday, alleging that they were not allowed to write the examinations in the school.
A group of school students studying plus one and plus two masked their faces and gathered at the collector's office campus on Monday morning. They claimed in the petition that the school charges them high fees. For plus one, the term fees was Rs 3,750 and for plus-two, it is Rs 2,750.
Since their parents are daily wage earners, they were not able to pay the fees on time. As part of punishment and disciplinary action, the school staff marked them absent in the attendance record, and also did not allow them to write their term examinations and tests conducted at the school, the students alleged in the petition.
Hence, they sought collector Archana Patnaik's intervene in the issue to help them continue their studies. As per the collector's order, the petition has been forwarded to the education department and necessary action has been taken, said the officials here on Monday.
