Visakhapatnam: In an apparent reaction to division of state, reflection of real estate boom in Vizag and above all to overtake the Balapur Ganesh laddu that fetched Rs 9.5 lakh in Hyderabad, a laddu of Ganesh idol installed by Vision VVK Housing India Private Ltd at Madhavadhara in the city fetched a mind boggling amount of Rs 12.75 lakh on Monday.
The first Ganesh Chaturdhi after division of Andhra Pradesh seen costliest laddu ever auctioned in Vizag.
The 27-kg laddu made in Tapeswaram in East Godavari offered to nine feet Ganesh idol installed at Madhava-dhara in the city, was bought by three realtors, A. Ramadevi, D. Bhaskar Reddy and K. Krishna Bhargav, all Vizagites. Ten people, most of them from the business fraternity, took part in the auction, which started with a mere Rs 49 while P. Vijaya Lakshmi bid for Rs12.5 lakh.
But, A. Ramadevi, D. Bhaskar Reddy and K. Krishna Bhargav rasied their bid and bagged it for '12.75 lakh, leaving everyone stunned. “More than the money it is the religious sentiment and a strong belief that the laddu offered to Ganesh during the festival brings good luck and blessings of the Lord Ganesh. So we revised our bids several times and bagged it for the prasadam,” said one of the three buyers, Ms Ramadevi.
The organisers of the pandal said the entire money earned through the auction of laddu would be handed over to Chief Minister Relief Fund.
